DVB's Reporter arrested at his home in Myeik, Tanitharyin Divison

Several Local police in Myeik arrested DVB's reporter Kaung Myat Naing (a) Aung Kyaw (31) at his home at 10:30 pm, 1st March 2021.  The police bang his front door, shouting at him to come out while a few gunshots were clearly heard from outside at the same time.  He asked for the reason to come out, whether they have a warrant and be peaceful and if he would come out. They finally broke into his house and took him away.

As of this statement, DVB has no knowledge of where he was taken away and which military authority took him away.  He has been reporting to DVB daily on the anti-military coup demonstration in Myeik since the military overthrew the elected civilian government on the 1st of Feb.  His latest reports were a fatal military crackdown on demonstrators in Myeik on 28th Feb and continued demonstration today.

He joined DVB in 2015 and currently working as a local reporter in Myeik.

We demand the military authority to release Kaung Myat Naing(a) Aung Kyaw immediately.  We also ask for the immediate release of all the journalists who have been detained recently.

They are all doing their professional job as journalists.
