dvb-logo1   Press Release for immediate release   DVB switches from shortwave to online radio DVB (previously known as Democratic Voice of Burma) has decided to end its shortwave radio transmission by the end of October 2014, after airing for over 22 years. Surveys show fewer people listen to shortwave nowadays, thus DVB is focusing more of its content on new digital media and TV output, which will also be available via Internet and mobile phones. With increased numbers of private print media as well as the launch of affordable and fast mobile and Internet access in Burma, people don‘t depend on shortwave radio for news. Burma is on the brink of entering an entirely new media era. DVB has extended its TV news output with daily top-of-the-hour news updates from 8am to 9pm since August 18, 2014. The total output has recently increased from 4 hours to 13 hours a day. DVB online is expanding news content on the web, social media and mobile platforms with apps for Apple and Android. DVB plans to launch mobile SMS and audio news subscription services in Burma, and 24/7 online news audio streaming. DVB will also apply for both TV and FM radio licenses once it is allowed. DVB started its first shortwave radio show on 19th July 1992. We would like to thank our donors and supporters in Burma and around the world, all the past and present contributors to our radio programs, and our loyal audience. DVB will continue to serve its audiences with independent and factual news on various new media platforms. ----------------------------------------------------------- For more information, please contact: Aye Chan Naing (Executive Director) +66 8 126 000 75 Khin Maung Win (Deputy Executive Director) +95 9 250 1882 15
